A Lighter Me's patient advocate will be there before and after your surgery to answer your questions and assist in your recovery at the hospital as well as at the 4-star hotel accommodations. The only thing you'll have to do is arrange for your round trip air travel from your home to the San Diego airport (SAN). Our drivers will be there to pick you up and take you safely across the border.
Air Travel Reservations
Your flight should arrive in San Diego (SAN) between Noon and 6:00 PM. If your flight arrives after our last pickup time for the day you will need to arrange a hotel stay for the night. Your return trip home should be some time after 1:00 PM.
Find discount airline prices at OneTravel and book your airfare to San Diego (SAN). You'll get our special prices on airline tickets and you'll also find discount rates on an overnight hotel stay in San Diego and rental cars if necessary.

If you live within driving distance of San Diego, you can park at Border Station Parking in San Ysidro, just one block north of the U.S./Mexico border. Our driver will pick you up at the arranged time. The Border Station provides a fully staffed, fenced parking facility that is open 24 hours, with security cameras and lighting. You can find directions and other information on the Border Station web site.
U.S. Passport Requirements
Since we provide transportation from San Diego airport to Tijuana, you will need a valid passport or Passcard to cross the border. U.S. Passcards can only be used for ground border crossings and not for air travel. Patients traveling from Canada or other countries will need a valid passport. Your patient coordinator knows the requirements for documentation for travelling to Mexico. Ask them if you have questions. US citizens can visit the US State Department website to apply if you don't already have a U.S. Passport or Passcard. Canadian citizens can find out more at the Passport Canada website.
Another alternative for US and Canadian citizens is an Enhanced Drivers License. Your state or province may be able to issue this special drivers license. You can find out more about an EDL on the Department of Homeland Security website.
Money and Exchange Rates
You won't usually need much money while in Mexico, however there may be some things you might need or want. You can expect the current exchange rate in stores to be roughly 16 Mexican pesos to one US dollar depending on who is exchanging the money. If something costs 16 pesos, it translates to approximately one US dollar. There are many ATM machines and banks available to get money or exchange dollars to pesos. Most restaurants and stores will accept US dollars, but you may end up with an unfavorable exchange rate with individual vendors. Credit cards are a good way to pay at many places. They will automatically do the exchange for you.
